Issues with no req spear
Okay here goes. I decided I want a spear with no requirement that deals 6-9 damage (the max that a no-req spear can do) and it must be inscribable. So I go outside Kamadan and farm for about 2 hours until finally one drops. I spend about another half hour and 15k getting mods for it to give it a +5 energy inscription and +30 health grip. So after all my work I'm very proud of myself, put my spear into storage, and log onto my PvP monk. I grab it out of storage and head out to the Isle of the Nameless to try it out. I throw it at the spear of 60 armor, and was shocked and horrified to find that it only did 3 damage. So I try again several times, and it always deals 2-3 damage. Once again, this spear has no requirement, and 6-9 damage. My monk is PvP only, and the spear is not yet customized. Someone please tell me why it is not dealing 6-9 damage. Thanks in advance.

Testing that I recently did shows that whether there is a req or not, a weapon won't do it's max damage until you have a 12 in the appropriate attribute. I'm assuming this is a bug. I tested with a candy cane axe for the record, which has no req and does 10 damage.

Because the damage is being reduced by armor. Honestly don't be so shocked. Furthermore, even if you think that your 6-9 damage every now and then can help the team, it really won't in PvP. You should be healing at all times (well, more or less) as a monk, not wanding/spearing a target.

Assuming that you have 0 ranks in Spear Mastery, you are only doing 35.6% of the stated weapon damage. See http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...nics-id674.php

hawko has a good point, that much armor is going to kill lesser damage you do. plus, most of the damage that any weapon does is based on the fact that you have points in its appropriate attribute. my derv can deal 2-3 dmg on a max require spear.

Thanks a lot Lutae. I thought as soon as you reached a weapons req you dealt the full damage it said on the weapon, and every point of mastery after that increased the damage further.
As for HawkofStorms, you show an obvious lack of knowledge about how the game works. All non-armor-ignoring damage is listed based on its effect against 60 armor, not 0 armor. Furthermore, I know that the tiny bit of damage that would have been added would be doing almost nothing, but even just a tiny bit of added damage is something to work for when everything else is perfect. When you have a health mod +29, of course you would eventually upgrade to +30 when it is all you are missing from being perfect. This was the only possible way to improve my monk since it is a PvP character. Of course I'm not going to attack when I could be healing, but there is always a little time standing around between healing, as long as nothing is attacking you (hence you have no reason to kite) the best thing to do is C space to add just a little damage. It is almost nothing, but why choose to not have that damage when you could have it? |
